Uber hires Amit Singhal, responsible for google search

Uber made an important announcement today: the hiring of Amit Singhal, the engineer responsible for the great advances in Google‘s search system.

Singhal, who worked at Google for 15 years, was the first person allowed to repair the google search engine algorithms developed by co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

According to the hitchhiker’s company, the engineer will help Uber with standalone car program and will work alongside Chief Executive Travis Kalanick.

“And do not let me start talking about how interesting and exciting the autonomous direction is for a computer scientist,” Singhal wrote in his blog.

Amit Singhal (Amit Kumar Singhal)will assume the position of Senior Vice President of Engineering at Uber Technology.

Amit Singhal was born in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh India. As an edication Singhal finished his BE (Computer Ecience) from IIT Rookre, India, then he received an M.S. degree from University of Minnesota Duluth & PHD from t Cornell University.

In 2000, he was recruited in Google by recomendation of his friend Krishna Bharat. After that Singhal ran Google’s core search quality department where he and his team were responsible for the Google search algorithms. Famous media and publications called him master mind of today’s google search.

According to New York Times, Singhal was the “master” of Google’s ranking algorithm — (the digital search engine formula which decides which Web page to display on each user’s query.) As a reward for his rewrite of the search engine in 2001, Singhal was also named a “Google Fellow”

He served as the head of Google search engine’s core ranking team. He was retired from Google on 2016.
